The Makers

These are exhibits of those bagpipes where the makers are known. There are no guesses. Each instrument has been carefully studied, documented, and attributed to the correct maker. Jeannie Campbell’s books on Highland Bagpipe Makers have been invaluable in this effort.

Unknown Makers

The bagpipe-making industry spans hundreds of years and countless craftsmen. We don’t speculate. If we can’t positively attribute a bagpipe to a specific maker, we wait. Often this patience is rewarded with information from our visitors.

Art & Photos

I have tons of classic pictures of pipers and other items of interest, so I decided to create a separate library. The image above is a photo by Kenneth MacLeay and his corresponding painting of William Ross, Queen’s Piper. Commissioned by Queen Victoria, the project began in 1865. His paintings were published in 1870.
